Yes! Except for Christmas Day, we are open every day of the year (including Australia Day, Easter, long weekends, Labor Day, New Years Day, etc.)
The easiest way to get to the Australian Reptile Park is via car. We’re only 60 minutes north of outer Sydney and south of Newcastle. Take the Gosford exit off the M1 Freeway and follow the signs to our location at Somersby on the Old Pacific Highway. For more travel options, please visit our Plan Your Visit page.
We have a strict no smoking policy within the grounds of the Australian Reptile Park. A designated smoking area is in the carpark to the left of the frilled-neck lizard entrance. Smoking e-cigarettes is also not permitted.
Free all-day parking is available for visitors. During peak seasons, our overflow carpark is opened to accommodate the increased numbers of patrons.
Upon entry to the Australian Reptile Park, our friendly Reception team will provide you with a park map. If you’re having trouble finding something, any of our friendly staff will be happy to direct you!
Visitors are permitted to take photos and videos of our animals for personal use only. Drone photography is not permitted.
In case of wet weather, the Park will remain open to visitors. Although the majority of the Park is outdoors, our reptile, nocturnal, spider, platypus, walk-in aviaries and Komodo dragon exhibits are indoors. We also have a large undercover picnic area to stop and grab a bite to eat.
We recommend packing an umbrella just in case! Rain ponchos are also available for purchase at the gift shop.
Our onsite kiosk, the Hard Croc Café, offers both hot and cold food options. We also have coffee, ice creams, snacks and cold drinks. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available.
You are welcome to bring your own food and/or use our BBQs which are free of charge to use.
Yes, we have barbeques near the picnic tables in the Main Park Area and in the Undercover Picnic Area. Barbeques are free to use but can be reserved for a small fee by calling Reception on (02) 4340 1022.
A limited number of prams are available for $5 a day. Prams are available on first come, first served basis. If you would like to book a pram, contact Reception on (02) 4341 1022 prior to your visit.
We would love to have you! We can cater for everything from casual BBQs to large corporate events and even weddings! Visit our Functions page for more information.
We have two children’s birthday party packages available. Packages include entry, food and the option for a private tour. Visit our Birthday Parties page for inclusions and pricing.

Animals
Unfortunately, it is prohibited by law for anyone to hold a koala in NSW (the state in which we are situated) unless you are a trained zookeeper. The only state in Australia that still allows the holding of koalas is Queensland. However, at The Australian Reptile Park we provide a Photo Experience where you can get up close to the koalas, pat them, have your photograph taken and cuddle up really close while they still sit in their tree!
Our friendly kangaroos will eat right out of your hand! However, it is extremely important that our kangaroos are only fed the special kangaroo food that is available for purchase at the Kiosk and Reception desk. Human food like chips, bread, fruit and carrots, can make our kangaroos very sick.
Yes! Visitors may purchase a Photo Experience for a hands-on encounter with a koala. Photo experiences are $39.99 each, you can have as many people in the photo as you like and you will receive one printed photo. We also have our ‘Snappy Pass’ available which is $119.99 for 4 photo experiences and printed photos. Visit our Photo Experiences page for more information.
The Australian Reptile Park is the best place to get up close to your favourite animals! Say hello to Hugo and rub his shell on his daily walk, pat and feed our free-range kangaroos, pat a koala during the koala feed and more! On weekends and school holiday periods, roving zookeepers will be roaming the Park with animals to interact with.
Visit our Show Times page for information about animal shows and how you can get involved.
Some animals, like our nocturnal species including the platypus, possum, and wombat can be tricky to see sometimes!
If you can’t find our platypus, he’s probably just hiding or sleeping! Find one of our friendly keepers and they can help you see him.
The best time to see our wombat is in the morning or afternoon, during feeding times.
Our animals also undergo regular health checks. As we are open every day except Christmas Day, there may be times where an animal is off display as they are being cared for by our zookeepers.
Yes, all animals are available for symbolic adoption. Our animals require daily care from keepers including feeding, heating and much more. Your sponsorship will assist us to cover these basic costs and become involved in vital conservation projects.
Click here to visit our Animal Adoptions page.
Our charity partner Aussie Ark is working hard to save our iconic Australian species from the brink of extinction. You can support their cause by donating, adopting an animal or visiting their wildlife sanctuary in the picturesque Barrington Tops. Find out more at aussieark.org.au
Tours & Experiences
Yes! We have a variety of special tours available that give you access behind the scenes at the Park. For a private, VIP tour, book a Behind the Scenes Tour. For a 20-minute animal interaction experience, try an Animal Encounter. Or, for the budding zookeeper, try out our Zookeeper Experiences!
No, payment must be made in full at the time of booking in order to secure your spot.
Various age limits are in place for Animal Encounter participants in the interest of safety for both animals and children. Because Animal Encounters participants will go behind the scenes and into enclosures, we have imposed strict age limits to keep the experience calm and safe for all parties.
