Is it your dream to work with animals?

Staff for our animal and maintenance sections (Reptiles, Mammals and Birds, Spiders, Cleaning and Maintenance) is almost always chosen from our hardworking and dedicated volunteer staff before being publicly advertised. Therefore, volunteering is a great first step into the zookeeping industry!

Australian Reptile Park Volunteer Program

The Australian Reptile Park’s Volunteer Program is a great way to gain experience and further knowledge within the zookeeping industry on the Central Coast. Many of our Volunteer Program participants are involved as part of their University or TAFE requirements to experience what it’s like to be a zookeeper, because they have a love of animals or to have fun!

Each volunteer applicant must be able to commit to one day a week, the same day each week, from 8.00am – 5.00pm
NOTE: Applicants must be 18 years of age or over

Participating in the Volunteer Program does not guarantee employment at the Australian Reptile Park or within the zookeeping industry. Once accepted into the program, volunteers are required to pay a deposit of $70.00 to receive an Australian Reptile Park work shirt, name badge and covers the cost of both a Police and Working with children check. This money is held until the volunteer leaves the program and the shirt and badge is returned. Please ensure you attach a passport photo to your application, along with a medical certificate from your local GP stating that you’re fit for work.

All volunteers undergo a 4-week trial period during which completion of the Occupational, Health and Safety Manual is mandatory.

Volunteers receive a discount on certain purchases at our Kiosk.
