One of the Australian Reptile Park’s most iconic residents, Stench the Green Anaconda, recently visited the vet for her annual check-up and passed with flying colours! She’s now settling into a brand-new enclosure at the Park.
At over 40kg and 3.5 metres long, Stench is Australia’s largest green anaconda on display. She’s been a Park favourite for years and even gave birth to 16 babies last year.
“Anacondas are incredibly strong, and if we’re not careful, she could easily constrict around us, which can be fatal,” said head Reptile Keeper, Dylan Wallis. “Safety is our top priority for both our staff and Stench.”
The team transported her to Somersby Vet Hospital, where she was examined head to tail. Aside from a few light abrasions, she received a perfect bill of health. X-rays—done in segments—showed excellent bone density and no issues. “She’s in fantastic condition,” confirmed Dr. Robyn. “It was incredible to see her skull on the scan!”
Back at the Park, Stench moved into her new enclosure, designed with land and water features to mimic her natural habitat. “This is a big moment,” said Wallis. “Stench is now the only green anaconda on display underwater in Australia, and she looks right at home in her new surroundings.”
Visitors can now visit Stench in her new home!
