Dingo Puppy Makes a Full Recovery

Date Published: July 8, 2025

It’s all paws on deck these July school holidays at the Australian Reptile Park, where our three adorable dingo puppies, Rusty, Muffin, and the resilient Socks, are ready to charm guests! After a heartwarming recovery journey, little Socks is bouncing back better than ever.

Born to dingo parents Chilli and Bandit, the pups have grown into a curious and playful bunch. Rusty and Muffin recently emerged from their den and wasted no time exploring the dingo yard, full of puppy energy and mischief. But it’s Socks who’s been getting extra attention—for all the right reasons.

During a routine check-up, keepers noticed that Socks' front paw was bent outward. A visit to the Somersby Animal Hospital revealed it was a minor growth issue, most likely caused when mum Chilli accidentally stepped on her. Thanks to a special corrective bandage and a tailored rehabilitation plan, Socks received around-the-clock care from the Park’s dedicated team.

Now, she’s thriving!

“We are so incredibly proud of Socks,” says Head Mammals Keeper Seleena De Gelder. “She’s shown such spirit through her recovery, and watching her bounce around now melts our hearts. Raising her was so special for the team, and we can’t wait for our visitors to fall in love with her just like we have.”

With her bandage off and a spring in her step, Socks is slowly being introduced to life outside, although she’s still being kept separate from her rough-and-tumble siblings to ensure her continued healing.

Visitors heading to the Park these school holidays will be able to watch Rusty and Muffin exploring their yard, and for those looking to get up close, dingo puppy encounters are now available to book. Don't miss out on this rare, unforgettable and educational experience!
