Orphaned Wombat Joey Turns One!
Bucky the wombat joey celebrated his first birthday at the Australian Reptile Park with sweet potato, carrot, and plenty of cuddles.
Rescued last year after his mum was hit by a car, Bucky has become a local favourite. To mark the day, his keeper and surrogate mum, Ellesha Veness, surprised him with a birthday bouquet of his favourite treats.
“Watching Bucky thrive over the past year has been such a joy,” said Ellesha. “When I first met him, he was so tiny and vulnerable. Now he’s full of personality and cheekiness!”
His story is also a reminder of the risks facing native wildlife, particularly on roads.
“Bucky’s story is a reminder of how fragile our native wildlife populations can be,” Ellesha explained. “We urge everyone to slow down on the roads, especially in wildlife-prone areas. One moment of caution could save a life like Bucky’s.”
Don’t miss the opportunity to meet Bucky up close during a behind-the-scenes encounter!
