This November, the Australian Reptile Park is celebrating two incredible milestones: 75 years of snake venom milkings and 45 years of funnel-web spider venom milkings!
For generations, the Park's dedicated keepers have collected venom from some of Australia's deadliest creatures, helping produce the antivenoms that save Australian lives.
From the early days of the venom program to today's state-of-the-art Weigel Venom Centre, the Park continues its vital role in protecting Australians from venomous bites.

Celebrating 75 Years of Snake Venom Milkings & 45 Years of Spider Venom Milkings!
For 75 years, the Australian Reptile Park's snake venom program has been helping save lives, with 2026 also marking 45 years of funnel-web spider venom milkings. The Park supplies 100% of the venom used to make Australia's antivenoms for deadly snakes. The Reptile Park's expert team milks over 250 snakes and houses 2,000 funnel-web spiders, providing venom to CSL Seqirus to create life-saving treatments.
Thanks to this work, antivenom saves around 300 lives every year, and there have been no deaths from funnel-web spider bites since 1981.
Visitors can witness this incredible science in action at the Weigel Venom Centre, a world-class facility where conservation meets cutting-edge research. The program continues to lead the way in wildlife protection, public safety and venom innovation, proving that even the deadliest creatures can help save lives.
